报告摘要:Lagrangian multiform theory was initiated in 2009 by Lobb \& Nijhoff as the variational approach to capture multidimentional consistency. This theory applies both to the continuous case (as in Integrable hierarchies) as well to the discrete case (consistency around the cube). Here we will concentrate on the continuous theory of Lagrangian 2-forms, which deals with the variational approach to 2D integrable equations. The main aim of the talk is two-fold:
1) to show that the Zakharov-Mikhailov (ZM) Lagrangian structure associated with the general class of zero-curvature equations associated with multipole Lax pairs of matrix type, admists a Lagrangian 2-form structure;
2) that this multiform Lagrangian structure gives rise to a variational description of the Lax pair itself. (This work is in collaboration with Duncan Sleigh and Vincent Caudrelier).
