报告摘要(Abstract):
In this talk, I will present a multi-scale model which allows for the prediction of cell population dynamics in terms of inter/intra-cellular regulatory network. This multi-scale model enables us to reveal the underlying principle and molecular basis that maintain tissue homeostasis. It also revels regulations whose alterations induce tumorigenesis by increasing cell number and disrupting homeostasis, which leads to a novel multi-scale cancer model. I will show that this model i). explains many phenomenological observations of cancers. It seems that cancer begins to make sense when viewed from this standpoint; ii). predicts some novel regularities of cancers that were then confirmed by statistical analysis of large-scale cancer TCGA data; and iii). predicts strategies and targets for cancer treatment that can be tested experimentally. I will also show that the multi-scale model provides a quantitative way to study molecular basis of evolution and development.
